In my previous post, I discussed finding inspiration for designing and explored the role of media, especially movies and TV series.
One such example is Yasak Elma, a Turkish series that aired from 2018 to 2023, with its title translating to “Forbidden Apple”.
The series follows Ender, a high-society woman married to the wealthy businessman Halit Argun.
She offers money to Yıldız Yılmaz, a young woman working at a restaurant, in exchange for seducing Halit.
Ender’s plan is to secure financial benefits through their divorce.
However, Yıldız exposes the scheme, leading Halit to divorce Ender, leaving her penniless.
Halit later marries Yıldız, setting off a dramatic chain of events.
The series features a variety of diverse characters and intertwining storylines, but in today’s post, we’ll focus on the fashion choices made by the stylists to showcase the distinct personalities of Ender and Yıldız.
Şevval Sam, the actress portraying Ender, is truly remarkable.
With her confident and powerful presence, she brings the character to life in a way that is both captivating and authentic.
With her dark hair and strong demeanor, she presents herself as the complete opposite of Yıldız Yılmaz.
Yildiz Yilmaz , played by the talented Eda Ece Tuncer, is a witty and playful character, and I can’t imagine anyone else portraying her as perfectly as Eda.
Her blonde hair stands in stark contrast to Ender’s dark, black hair, emphasizing their contrasting personalities.
One thing they do share is a mutual love for money and power.
In my previous post, I shared a simple tip for finding TV series with great fashion inspiration: focus on shows where the characters are rich.
To portray their lifestyle, these characters are often styled with a wide variety of clothing choices, beautiful jewelry, and flawless makeup.
This is why Yasak Elma is an excellent series for studying how clothing is used to represent different characters and their life stories.
Yıldız Yılmaz, coming from a modest background and suddenly entering high society, embodies the transformation of a young woman who becomes the trophy wife of Halit.
Her style shows the big change she goes through—going from a simple background to suddenly being wealthy and part of high society.
The contrast between her youthful energy and the sophistication of high society is clearly represented in her wardrobe choices, which evolve as she navigates her new life.
With that in mind, the stylist often experiments with her fashion choices, ranging from fun and quirky to elegant and mature pieces.
Not only do the clothes represent the differences between Yıldız and Ender, but they also emphasize the significant age gap between Yıldız and her husband, as she is much younger than him.
As a trophy wife, Yıldız must maintain her beauty for Halit every day, which is reflected in her glamorous clothes and shoes, even when she’s at home.
This gives us the opportunity to see a wide range of clothing choices that showcase her evolving style.
The plot also portrays Yıldız as being disliked by Halit’s children from his previous marriages.
Since Halit has had multiple wives, it’s clear that he values beauty, and style is very important to him.
He sees himself as deserving of the best in life, including the most beautiful women, which further influences the way he chooses his partners.
On the other hand, we have Ender, Halit’s ex-wife, who is an extremely intelligent and dominant woman.
Driven by a hunger for power and a desire to reclaim the money she believes is rightfully hers, she remains persistent in Halit and Yıldız’s lives, particularly because she shares a son with Halit.
To embody her strong, assertive presence, Ender’s wardrobe is carefully curated by the stylist to reflect her power, confidence, and the “mean” vibe she exudes.
Her clothes are bold and sophisticated, reinforcing her commanding role in the story.
Yasak Elma is a series with 177 episodes, each offering a wide variety of fashion combinations.
It’s not just Yıldız and Ender who showcase striking styles; many other characters, especially the female ones, contribute to the fashion diversity of the show.
Halit, being surrounded by women, adds another layer to the style dynamics, as each female character brings her own unique look and fashion statement.
I highly recommend that anyone who becomes interested and wants to explore more go to Pinterest and search for “Yasak Elma.”
There, you’ll find plenty of pins related to the series, showcasing fashion, characters, and more.
